One of the hardest parts after a divorce is finalized is getting started on your own.  I found out the hard way that if you don’t have any credit on your own, good luck getting an apartment or credit card or much of a life.

You see, my ex-husband took care of our finances and I was pretty much left out in the dark.  I didn’t know much other than the occasional how are we doing.  I was pretty good with math and our money, I just didn’t know that much about where we stood.

Well, after our divorce I was in need of an apartment and some car repairs and I tried to get a credit card on my own.  Being married for 23 years with nothing in my name on its own hurt me.  The mortgage was in his name, car loans, his name, etc.
